Picture yourself in the romantic city of Venice sitting outside at a table along the canal, across from the love of your life, enjoying a romantic dinner before you head back to the hotel and make love. The love between you two is undeniable, almost magnetic. Nothing can ruin your dinner out…can it?
Oh yes, it can be ruined. How about a loud mouth woman spilling gossip at the table next to you that she thinks the whole world needs to hear? What about a menu with no dessert options (what’s a date without dessert)? How about a server that comes back to check on you every five minutes? Or a loud and noisy ambiance with drunks sitting at the bar being rowdy? You can tell your romantic night out goodbye. Let’s face it, no matter how much romance is between the two of you, the restaurant plays a huge part in how successful your date night out is.
What makes a restaurant romantic?
For us it’s all about ambiance. The ambiance encompasses great views, dim lighting, maybe some string lights, and possibly some romantic candles or flowers on the table. The other aspect of ambiance is the noise: somewhere you can’t hear a pin drop, but also not loud enough you can’t hear each other speaking. A bonus to top things off with a cherry are the dessert options. Dessert just screams romance. Satisfying your sweet tooth with something chocolatey that you can feed your lover is the perfect way to finish a meal.
We have researched the top romantic restaurants around the world and picked the best of the best for you.
If we were ranking restaurants based on how good the food was, it would be a completely different selection. So remember, this is based on the romantic ambiance qualities and its potential to turn a date night out from horrible to orgasmic- literally. Though we have not tried all of these restaurants yet, you can rest assured these cities are on our bucket list and the restaurants will be must-try’s when we get there. #1 El Jardin Secreto in Madrid, Spain
Ambiance: When you enter the restaurant, you walk into this garden-inspired, eclectic dream. With dim lighting, strings of lights span the ceiling and mini hot air balloons hang from above. With indoor and outdoor seating, every single table is unique. In fact, Steph’s chair at the table was a swing!
Dessert: You must try one of their “orgasmic” desserts or chocolates. Their dessert menu is almost as long as their food menu!
#2 Dopolavoro at the JW Marriott in Venice, Italy on Rose Island
Ambiance: Take a complimentary cruise from Piazza San Marco over to beautiful Rose island to the Marriott’s new restaurant Dopolavoro for Michelin star quality food. Head there early to go on a romantic, hand-holding stroll around the large property. There are beautiful gardens, lounging areas, and pools. If you have time, grab a cocktail up by their pool bar for the absolute best views of Venice. When you step into the restaurant, you’re greeted by mirrors and brick arches. The dining rooms are dimly lit with beautiful circular lighting and plenty of space so you don’t feel crowded. Then be prepared for one of the best meals of your life- or should we say ten meals as they are small dishes but each one looks as though it’s been prepared with tweezers. The attention to detail here is exquisite.
Dessert: The menu is always changing, but trust us, you can’t go wrong with any item here.

Make sure to bring some bread to feed the ducks floating by!
Dessert: Go with the salted caramel brownie that has caramel popcorn shortbread crumbs.
#5 Olive & Ivy in Scottsdale, Arizona
Ambiance: Located in Old Town Scottsdale, walk into a modern restaurant on the inside, but the outside patio is a garden setting overlooking the waterfront area. Request a table outside, under the shady trees, and enjoy the mediterranean inspired food. You’ve gotta try the pesto dip. This is our favorite restaurant in all of Scottsdale!
Dessert: To be honest, we usually opt for just a scoop of their amazing gelato for dessert because we’ve filled up on too much bread and pesto! The gelato is very tasty since it’s made fresh daily.
